The Zingaro
The Zingaro Nature Reserve is a little piece of paradise, accessible only on foot, which extends for about 7 km. Along this coast, the mountain sides descend steeply into the sea forming, in some places, pebbly coves such as Cala della Capreria, Cala del Varo, Cala della Disa, Cala Beretta, Cala Marinella and Cala Torre dell'Uzzo, bays of unmistakable charm.
The sea is an intense turquoise, and in some cases, light green, the sea bed is extremely clear, the water is almost like a mirror, and it is full of caves, flora and fauna.
The flora includes more than 700 species including the manna ash, wild jasmine, orchids and many other plants typical of the area. Among the fauna there are 39 species of birds including the peregrine falcon, kestrel and some specimens of golden eagle.
Of great archaeological importance is the Prehistoric cave, Grotta dell’Uzzo, where human presence is documented by graffiti and wall paintings and by the discovery of fragments of vases, flint, obsidian in addition to twelve human skeletons and animal bones.
